Just remembered a touching story I want to share from work last week. We had a huge convention in town, I helped out one of our restaurants during the day & ran events at night. We had all hands on deck. Tons of staff & it still didn’t seem like quite enough. 1/

One of our young bussers is here from Honduras on a work visa sponsored by my boss so she can help with care of her elderly grandmother. Two family members are citizens and have worked with us before. They were great so boss thought he could take the chance & help. 2/

She struggles with the language some, but can get by easily for what her job requires & is especially polite. Hard worker, great attitude, very cute girl. Before long she had a boyfriend. He’s a douche, but she’s young so you know how that goes. 3/

She ends up pregnant and he bails. Of course. So now she’s 6 months pregnant and working as much as she can to save money. She busted her butt last week in all the chaos. And I mean CHAOS of a jam packed restaurant that seats roughly 500 when all areas are open. 4/

Anyway, she finished bussing one table and went to take the paid check to the waiter. He opened it and found his tip and then another piece of paper folded over. It said “For a beautiful mother to be and her baby...” 5/

On the inside was the sweetest note about how the writer was a young, single mother once & though it was tough, she got through it & it was the most rewarding experience of her life. She knew that after seeing how hard she worked, she knew that she (busser) would be okay, too. 6/

She hoped this little token would help and encourage her on her journey. That “little token” was a $100 bill. The waiter found her & showed her excitedly. She didn’t quite understand until he explained & translated. Then she burst into tears. 7/

She couldn’t believe a stranger would do that. She absolutely beamed the rest of the week. It made such a difference to her, financially & emotionally. There is still kindness in this world. There is still gratitude. Try not to forget that amidst all the ugliness. /end
