A historian has located more than 500 images taken between 1937 and 1938 by the Hungarian photographer Kati Horna who came to Spain during the Spanish Civil War to offer her services to the CNT anarchists and the Iberian Anarchist Federation (FAI) elpais.com/elpais/2019/08…
“Until now, [Kati Horna] was recognized as a photographer and artist but she was taken on by the anarchists in 1937...She never worked for the Republic. She worked for the CNT-FAI and you can’t properly understand the photos without taking her political militancy into account.”
Read more about anarchist women in Spain: during the Spanish Civil War Mujeres Libres fought for women’s rights within CNT, FAI and FIJL and against fascism.
One of Kati Horna’s subjects was Emma Goldman who worked with anarchists in Spain during the civil war. I recently bought this from @ravenbookstore in #Boston when I was recording my audiobook for @BeaconPressBks which also published this!
I am creating another thread specifically about anarchist women in Spain in the 1930s. See #AnarchistWomen
