THREAD: Rarely are political prisoners in Iran able to send messages via social media apps from prison, but that happened this weekend when jailed photographer Nooshin Jafari ichri.org/2MB0u0t sent one from Evin Prison to Shiva Nazarahari, who is based outside Iran. (1of8)

Shiva, knowing Nooshin's Instagram Live message was sent under extreme duress, posted the audio of it on her Twitter account. In it, Nooshin--in a whimpering, terrified voice--implores Shiva to give the Iranian authorities the password to a Twitter account. (2of8)

That account has 39k+ followers and posts content that is extremely critical of Iran's government. The authorities had arrested Nooshin under the false premise that she was running it, now they've forced her to pressure someone else to give them information about it. (3of8)

"I’m under a lot of pressure here. Please give me the password and email address [for the account]. They will put your family under pressure if you don’t give it..." says the whimpering Nooshin in the message to Shiva. (4of8)

Nooshin sounds stressed, scared, and like she has been crying. There is nothing in the message, her voice, or her case that suggests she would have ever sent the message on her own accord. (5of8)

Besides, how did Nooshin, who has been unjustly detained incommunicado since Aug. 4 iranhumanrights.org/2019/08/why-sh… under close watch by intelligence agents, get access to a phone with Instagram on it in a prison? (6of8)

The serious concerns about the health and state of Nooshin Jafari in Evin Prison that arose after she was unjustly detained earlier this month have substantially increased since she was forced to send that message. (7of8)

Like all of #Iran's political prisoners, Nooshin is being denied due process and is at risk of torture. This event highlights the cruelty of Iran's security establishment and a judiciary chief that is doing nothing to prevent the abuse of prisoners. (8of8)
