Thread on evolution for people who don't really understand it. Firstly, we did not evolve from chimpanzees. We share a common ancestor but we split ways roughly 4 million years ago. So no, chimps aren't evolving into humans now because well, they can't.

Also, it takes millions and millions of years for an organism to evolve. It occurs through a process called natural selection. It begins when an organsim is born with a favourable mutation. This mutation helps the organism survive and find a mate to pass on the mutated gene.

Over time the species gain a lot of favourable mutated genes and it no longer has the same DNA as it's ancestors. So it cannot successfully breed with it's ancestors. This is called speciation, when different species are born from a common ancestor.

Speciation is dependent on the environment the organism lives in. That is why you might find a brown finch in a wooded area and whiter finches near the beach. The colour of the organism helps it camouflage, allowing them to hunt and hide from predators.

As for humans, our species being the more intellectual type, relied heavily on tools and whatnot for survival. We lost most of our body hair, that might have been because it was hot. Or maybe the hairless ones were seen as more attractive? Having less hair also meant less lice.

Either way, humans gradually became less hairy. We also grew more intelligent. We started growing plants, settling down and setting up shelters, we were also hunting and taming animals for food. We've come a long way from our gorilla-like days. But the DNA does not lie.

The DNA is like a blueprint for a human. It contains the code for all the proteins and such that make up the body. One mishap and you'd end up with an extra limb. Chimps actually share 96% of our DNA. We are that similar.

So tell me, O' wise one. Why is our DNA similar to a chimp's? Oh but you might bring up the banana DNA thing so here's another fact. It's not just bananas that we share genes with. We share genes with many plants in the plant kingdom. Those genes are basic genes involved in basic

cellular functions such as replication and maintenance of the cell cycle. Also, the DNA is massive. So having some similar genes as bananas still mean we are only 1% similar to bananas in our DNA. That is why we don't look like a banana 🤷🏻‍♂️

Now that you read the entire thread, I would suggest reading some other sources as well. It doesn't hurt knowing something. It's up to you whether you want to believe it or not, but the facts are there. And I'm just showing the facts 🤷🏻‍♂️
