I've been finishing the second volume of "The Manufacturing of Greta Thunberg for Consent" series. As soon as I ventured near social media I was inundated with the Amazon fires messaging.

The World Economic Forum (billionaires club): "...the house is clearly on fire - We need to scale solutions now if we have any chance of saving it."

Corporations burning forests for palm oil: not frightening.
Forest fires: frightening.

weforum.org/agenda/2019/08…

Only the markets can save us.

Certification schemes. Green Bonds. A "New Deal For Nature". We need momentum. We need that "Paris moment".

Financial Times:
"Trade deals could combat Brazil’s Amazon deforestation"
ft.com/content/5f1230…

Earth Observatory, Nasa: "As of August 16, 2019, an analysis of NASA satellite data indicated that total fire activity across the Amazon basin this year has been close to the average in comparison to the past 15 years."

We have a crisis. We have a new tipping point. We have the UN climate action summit around the corner. We have a villain. Our heroine arrives in NYC soon. #NewDealForNature

Fire evokes fear. Industry felling trees for toilet paper. Not so problematic it would appear.

"Canada has more than one billion acres of boreal forest, more than one million of which are affected annually by industrial logging."

ctvnews.ca/sci-tech/how-a…

“The Canadian boreal is one of the most important forests in the world. It’s the world’s largest remaining intact forest,” Vinyard said.

“It’s disappearing before our eyes at a rate of seven NHL hockey rinks a minute.”

CNN tells us more than 1.8 million acres of forest/trees have been burned - while as much as 76 million acres of forest in Indonesia alone has been cut down in the past 25 years for industrial palm plantations. Oh right, but that's "sustainable palm" certified by WWF et al.

Do you really think Macron et al give a fuck about Forests?

When industry chops down, grinds & burns trees for biomass they call it "green energy" - ignored by the NPIC & media at large. When trees burn in Brazil it is suddenly a global crisis & a dangerous tipping point.

If the citizenry stopped "following" Greenpeace, WWF, et al - & started following the Natural Capital Coalition, IPBES, WRI, and those at the helm of the "New Deal For Nature" - we would have a much better understanding on what is actually going on.

Tagged in the above tweet:

The Natural Capital Coalition - utilizing forest fires as a method of building support for the financialization of nature.

Forests destroyed for Nutella, Mcdonalds, toilet paper, biomass & biofuel - no worries. Forests destroyed by fires - global emergency.

July 24, 2019:

"We will never save the rainforest until a living tree is worth more to Brazil than an incinerated one."

The financialization of nature. #NewDealForNature

This is of interest: "Those Photos of the Amazon Burning? Not All of Them Are Real." - h/t @johnsteppling

"Any account of celebrities must be predicated on the recognition that ‘the interests served are first of all those of capital."

The citizenry here (in North America), for some strange reason, continues to assume everything they read in the media is true. We should always assume the opposite. The first question is always who does the story serve.
Another meme from @johnsteppling

@johnsteppling Conservation International = New Deal For Nature

@johnsteppling Conservation International is another NGO leading the implementation of the financialization of nature (#NewDealForNature).

"The Amazon is on fire: 5 things you need to know"

Read this people.:

@johnsteppling On August 15, 2019, Norway & Germany suspended payments to the Amazon Fund - "The Amazon Fund is a REDD+ mechanism... Government agencies, such as IBAMA, Brazil's environmental agency, and NGOs shared Amazon Fund donations."

#Spectacle

@johnsteppling "DiCaprio said the crisis in the Amazon was "incredibly tragic."

This is also tragic: "The post has been liked more than 1 million times in less than 24 hours. DiCaprio also asked his 34 million followers to donate to the fund..."

All hands on deck for the financialization of nature.

@johnsteppling @StephenCorrySvl All hands on deck for the financialization of nature.

#NewDealForNature

@johnsteppling @StephenCorrySvl "Countries are in the process of negotiating a new global biodiversity framework through the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which has been called a "New Deal for Nature." This pact, expected to be agreed in Beijing in late 2020."

#Spectacle

@johnsteppling In 2018 our industrialized civilization "destroyed an expanse of tropical forest nearly the size of England, the fourth largest decline since global satellite data become available in 2001...The pace of the loss is staggering—"

phys.org/news/2019-04-t…

@johnsteppling —"the equivalent of 30 football fields disappearing every minute of every day in 2018, or a total of 120,000 square kilometres (46,000 square miles). Almost 1/3 of that area, some 36,000 km2, was pristine primary rainforest."

The tipping point is just happening now? Sure. Okay.

@johnsteppling August 1, 2019: "Indonesia sends thousands of security personnel to combat forest fires.... deploying thousands of military and police to douse forest fires after declaring an emergency in six provinces on the island of Sumatra ..."

Look away. #PalmOil

todayonline.com/world/indonesi…

@johnsteppling "In 2014, megafires in Canada’s Northwest Territories scorched more than 7 million acres of forest, releasing half as much carbon back into the atmosphere as all the plants and trees in Canada typically absorb in an entire year."
