Periodic advert about IIMA's History Internship. This time a thread on what past interns, all amazing, have been doing. web.iima.ac.in/users/hr/JD%20…

The History Internship allows Masters/PhD students to explore business and economic history at IIMA, for two months, either on their topics or on something that I am working on. Started in 2017 and over ten have availed it so far.

One guy wanted to kill time after his MBA before his job at a big FMCG firm started, slogged for two months, got obsessed with Spencer's (estd. 1863) and after many more months of work, we wrote this piece on marketing history | emerald.com/insight/conten…

One PhD student still figuring out her forte, worked hard at the Godrej and Cipla Archives, co-wrote this piece - emerald.com/insight/conten… - and decided that History was not for her. She's very bright and now doing Philosophy rather than History, which is sub-optimal, but great!

One person came in from a corporate archive, loved to work on advertisements and is now doing a History PhD in the USA on cultural history....perhaps on the pressure cooker.

One Master's student, helped out going through corporate directory lists searching for women names and finding more info on them. Now starting a MPhil at Oxford.

A PhD student working on Sindhi business history, did some fantastic work on the House of Motwane/Chicago Radio and is now working on more such businesses. Hopefully we have something coming soon (mentioned as forthcoming work in #IndiaMoving as a disciplining mechanism!)

One young engineer did some simple but amazing data visualization stuff using historical data (that shall be released shortly). Sitting for placements currently and as most engineers are these days, rather confused.

One PhD student from America spent 2 months analyzing historical corporate level data, computing leverage ratios and building an idea of why leverage changed over time.

One student, slogged hard, attended several courses at IIMA, got reference letters, and now is doing a PhD in UK with the SC/ST Scholarship given by the Government of Maharashtra. Truly remarkable growth.

Many more have started PhDs. Or were happy with their time even if they did not eventually pursue History. The best was when one intern got a job in a large corporate house in Bangalore in their archives section; Masters in History and job in MNC? Possible!

Bottom line is....If you are a Masters/PhD student interested in historical perspectives, do apply or share info on IIMA's History Internship. Apply only if you really want to and with solid reasons!
