Inviting foreign election interference featured in the #whistleblower complaint is just one #ElectionManipulation tactic we need to address.

Here are our 6 legislative proposals for Congress to curb this kind of presidential abuse of power. protectdemocracy.org/preventing-and…

Proposal 1⃣: Protect political candidates from improper law enforcement activity. This would block presidents from using independent institutions like the DoJ for politically-motivated investigations of candidates, their campaigns, & their supporters. nytimes.com/2018/11/20/us/…

Proposal 2⃣: Prevent voter intimidation by all law enforcement officers, including those who assist in enforcing immigration laws. Federal law enforcement activities at the polls are particularly likely to intimidate non-white citizens eligible to vote. elpasotimes.com/story/news/201…

Proposal 3⃣: Enact a federal prohibition on practices intended to deceive voters & strengthen existing prohibitions on voter intimidation. Empowering the A.G. to prosecute anyone who knowingly communicates certain basic election info they know to be false. washingtonpost.com/news/post-poli…

Proposal 4⃣: Make it possible for victims of unconstitutional govt interference in elections to obtain money damages. E.g. people unconstitutionally stopped at the polls would have a monetary remedy & govt actors would be incentivized to act lawfully.

Proposal 5⃣: Strengthen disciplinary procedures in the Hatch Act for certain high-level
employees. This would close the loophole for White House staff that allow the president to let them off easy when they politicize their government jobs. thehill.com/homenews/admin…

Proposal 6⃣: Prevent the president from colluding with foreign powers. Congress should require candidates & campaign orgs to promptly disclose any contacts with foreign govts, particularly about offers of assistance like what we’re seeing develop in the #whistleblower complaint.
