Kicking off a tour of the #CapitolHillEcoDistrict led by @CapHillHousing. We're joined by a lot of various stakeholders to see what public life looks like (and could look like) when we center neighborhoods on people, climate, and sustainability.
Next stop: Cal Anderson to hear from Brie Gyncild & Michelle Lambert. We're hearing about changes through the decades and community work to influence #transitorienteddevelopment and what's it's like to raise a family in the state's densest neighborhood.
The new developments around the Capitol Hill light rail station includes a plaza that meets community needs through spaces for meetings, events, affordable commercial, and (yay!) childcare! All incorporating multimodal modes of moving through the city. 🚲🚄🚉🚶🏻♀️
Parent perspective: living where I work means I am engaged in so many aspects of my community as a resident and as a parent. I can walk to work, I can volunteer, I can help build community. We need to make this neighborhood family friendly, too #CapitolHillEcoDistrict
Our next stop: @SeattleCentral to hear from Dr. Sheila Edwards Lange & Robert Schwartz abt how Seattle Central and @seattleu in ensure a welcoming, urban institution that is PART of the neighborhood and community. #CapitolHillEcoDistrict
Next stop: Chophouse Row! Matt Landers of the @GSBA shares what makes a queer neighborhood special and how working with small businesses promotes sustainable, people-centered change. More pedestrians is good for business and good for neighborhood safety. #CapitolHillEcoDistrict
Chophouse Row used to be a parking lot. Now it's a space with over fifty businesses & residents serving the community and visitors. This is what happens when you start with people in creating and transforming public space.
Last stop is the @Bullitt_Center. They could've been anywhere but they chose the #CapitolHillEcoDistrict to call home. Find them at the intersection of activism, climate stewardship, and sustainability. #neighborhoodsforall
That's a wrap! Thank you so much to @CapHillHousing for leading this walking tour of the #CapitolHillEcoDistrict!
