Panel starts with a content warning: discussions of gender-based harassment, misogyny and sexual violence may occur. Here we go.

By the way: another absolutely packed room, and loads of men. All I can think is how rare it would be to see this at a film/tv industry event and/or academic event.
Comments welcome.

When I say packed, I’m talking well over 100 people (anyone know room capacity?). A truly, genuinely diverse audience listening to a sophisticated discussion on toxic masculinity. This is remarkable. #PAXAus2019

Ok. It’s getting hair raiding now. Games where your male character has sex under conditions of questionable consent and you earn experience points.

Dead wives and children are often key narrative drivers that underpin their characters, and which justify their toxic masculinity behaviour.

The point was made that a goose, technically, is female.

This panel is delivering a blistering analysis of gender in gaming with a delightful amount of humour as well.
Wait what BOYS LEARN ABOUT SEX FROM GAMING ?! #PAXAus2019

@dreamdaddygame as one example of more positive representations of complex masculinity in gaming. Men do domestic labour, e.g.(!!)

Hmmmm. Not sure the bar is being set high enough in some of these discussions. Just because it’s not a white heterosexual able bodied dude-bro as lead make does not make it inclusive or non-toxic. Don’t think the “Mexican immigrant” character adds much, e.g.

How to create change?
Recruit, value and retain a workforce that develops, designs and delivers stories that have not been told before. YES.
