“Non-trustworthy suppliers subject to influence not controlled by rule of law need to be generally excluded from complete 5G network”.
Excellent position paper by SPD parliamentary group making strong security & technological sovereignty case to exclude Huawei from German/EU 5G.

Remarkable that paper is co-signed by all relevant SPD parliamentary group spokespersons including economics/technology/digital/industry not just by foreign policy/security.
Ahead of CDU party convention this increases pressure against Merkel’s Huawei open door policy.

Following SPD position paper, @n_roettgen & 30 MPs sponsor resolution to CDU party convention to force Merkel to change course on 5G/Huawei
* parliament needs to decide
* should pass law to only accept suppliers „not under influence of non-democracies“

@n_roettgen Foreign minister @HeikoMaas with crystal clear positioning on 5G & Huawei:
"With security of critical infrastructure at stake, we cannot avoid to ignore political & legal realities that providers are subject to. Trustworthiness not purely technical matter"

@HeikoMaas: "If Europe wants to maintain technological sovereignty we need to take this strategic goal into account in political decisions even if that comes with short term costs. Otherwise we will not be able to succeed in geostrategic competition between US and China".

Congratulations, @n_roettgen for winning majority at #cdupt19 against Merkel’s Huawei open door policy on 5G critical infrastructure. Combined with SPD position paper this is game changer. Opportunity for Bundestag to pass law taking security & technological sovereignty seriously
