(Thread)With the spotlight on philanthropy that #GivingTuesday brings, today I’ll share 10 @StreetRoots highlights from the past year to share why I love it, and to encourage you to support it through @GiveGuide. giveguide.org/#StreetRoots

👉#1. Last week two vendors signed a lease on an apartment. Last year they were living outdoors; over the summer, they moved into a couple’s shelter. When anyone from the @StreetRoots community moves into housing, everyone rejoices🧡 #GivingTuesday giveguide.org/#StreetRoots

👉 #2). In our March 15 issue, @StreetRoots senior reporter @GreenWrites created a blueprint for a new first responder system, #PortlandStreetResponse — and City Council approved a pilot just over 8 months later 🎉)giveguide.org/#StreetRoots

#3 👉In April, Metropolitan Public Defenders helped @StreetRoots vendors review their Oregon court records to see if old arrests, misdemeanors and felonies could be expunged. This was a pilot with @PortlandHousing, and we will do it again in the new year! giveguide.org/#StreetRoots

@StreetRoots @GiveGuide #3.) Helen Hill's "Life on the Streets" series ( news.streetroots.org/archive?f[0]=i…). She interviewed @street Roots vendors about parasites, homelessness as women, the cold, the heat, sickness, waiting in line, foot care, private guards, losses, faith, & growing old. giveguide.org/#StreetRoots

👉#5.) We celebrated 20 years of @StreetRoots ... and produced a special issue news.streetroots.org/2019/10/04/cel… telling our history 🎂🗞🌟 giveguide.org/#StreetRoots

#6) We threw our first annual Street Roots Street Party in July to bring unhoused and housed people together ... and thanks to the deejaying of @emillygprado, people were dancing in the streets giveguide.org/#StreetRoots

👉7.) In June, Village Building Convergence created imaginative, inspiring workspaces for @StreetRoots staff while we keep a look for a bigger space for everyone: news.streetroots.org/2019/06/14/str… The community is generous! giveguide.org/#StreetRoots

👉8.) Another highlight from last year: that October afternoon when @SenJeffMerkley dropped by to chat with @StreetRoots vendors. giveguide.org/#StreetRoots

👉#9) This next @StreetRoots highlight comes in the form of a thousand acts of generosity — all the tents and blankets unhoused people provide each other, all the wellness checks they provide each other, and even, the life-saving measures people provide. giveguide.org/#StreetRoots
