@vanessatsehaye is one of the most prominent Human Rights activists who began protesting #Eritrea’s human rights abuses when she was only 16 years old.
After her uncle, photojournalist Seyoum Tsehaye, was imprisoned in September 2001, Vanessa campaigned for his release at her high school and later expanded the campaign to secondary schools and universities around the world.
In 2013 She founded @onedayseyoum, a human rights org that campaigns for Seyoum Tsehaye’s release & raise awareness about the crackdown on democratic ideals in #Eritrea. Her uncle, Seyoum, was a talented photographer & freedom fighter who documented the fall of Massawa in 1990.
@vanessatsehaye has been behind many successful campaigns including #FreeEritrea #HappyBirthdayCiham & #18StolenYears that have greatly helped raise awareness about human rights violations in #Eritrea.
Vanessa is a recipient of Dawit Isaak Prize in 2013 & she was nominated for Index on Censorship’s Freedom of Expression award in 2016. She currently practices Law & serves as a @OneYoungWorld Ambassador while continuing to advocate for her uncle’s release & free speech in Eritrea
