Let’s call this the TransAmerica Route66 trip then? DC-NY-LA-SF through 10 states! Stay tuned for updates! #Route66 #roadTrip
Day 3 :
NYC to Bedford (PA). The ice rain from the crazy weather day in NY made for some amazing views. Tree tops were shining with ice sheets 😍 Detoured to a small temple in Manor Hill - Vraj
Day 4 : We reached Columbus, Ohio today. You can say it’s a lively city just be seeing the amount of hurry cars are in! We found some Indian food and an amazing indie book store @TheBookLoft1. States we crossed : PA, WV, OHIO! Also crossed the 1000km mark in the trip
Day 5 : Ohio to Indiana to Illinois to St. Louis, Missouri crossing the Mississippi River. Today was an incredible drive with snow clad fields on both sides of the road for 500km. St. Louis architecture is classic (dilapidated in parts). The Arch gave us amazing views.
Day 6 : Countryside driving across Missouri. A 90 year old ice-cream shop, 70 year old motel and a cave with 1000s of years old stalactite formations. Great start to the #Route66 #CaveState #Missouri
Day 7 : Missouri-Kansas-Oklahoma. We reached Tulsa. Really hit the deep country lands today. Wandered away into a few farms, Cars artefacts , abandoned villages, dead bridges and met amazing people. The state highways were absolutely incredible! Hard for any pictures to justify!
Day 8 : A day of driving through the countryside in Oklahama on Christmas Day. At times, it felt like we were the only souls on the road for miles together! We stayed a tiny town and drove around to see the warm Christmas lights. 2000miles done! #Route66 #RoadTrip
Day 9 - Reached Amarillo, Texas! Another incredible day of driving on state highways that has been through 8 decades of history. The windmills and expansive fields were hypnotic. Today’s highlight was the spray painting at the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo.
Day 10: Reached Albuquerque, New Mexico today crossing the #Route66 midpoint. Hit slightly rough weather so decided against going to Santa Fe. Got to taste the famed Chilli cheese burger and Mexican hot chocolate. Albuquerque is the least generic American city I have seen. Dope!
Day 11 : A super chill day of exploring food and architecture in Albuquerque. In the evening we went for a Breaking Bad RV tour. No coincidence that my favourite TV show is shot in Route66. Again, Albuquerque is such a cool town! Snow in the evening capped a great day!
Day 12 : Reached the tiny town of Gallup, New Mexico. Today we stayed in the second classic motel of our trip : El Rancho, visited by Prez Ronald Reagan and many Hollywood stars. Today’s drive was short but pretty. Plateaus on either side and snowy mountains on the horizon.
Day 13 : Flagstaff, Arizona. Best day of the trip so far. Started with losing our way and reaching 100km into the Navajo Tribal reserves. The views were so good we couldn’t care less. Then we reached Painted desert to see some incredible landscapes and Harvey houses.
Day 14 : Laughlin, Nevada. This is slightly off Route66 but we drove through the entire Oatman Highway, the largest deviation from interstates. Ended up in a village that prides on its mules. The final sunset of 2019 was perfect. Welcomed NYE with some casino wins!
Day 15 : Ontario, California. We had planned to end Route66 at Santa Monica Pier in LA today but couldn’t make it due to the insane traffic. Today’s highlight was suddenly entering the hilly and snow-washed town of Phelan after a long hot desert drive. Unexpectedly pretty town!
Day 16 : Pismo Beach, Sunny California. We made it to the end of Route 66 at Santa Monica Pier in LA and drove to our last spot before SF. Of course we took the state highway and boy, was it worth the scenes!
Day 17: San Francisco, California. After 4000 miles of driving in 17 days, we have reached our final destination. It has been a dream trip in every possible way. Months of planning paid off as we had a near perfect plan! Today’s drive was non stop with a sense of bye-bye!
