This morning’s media open house highlighted the strides we have made as a department and the obstacles we have overcome. To recap, I’d like to point out the #LASD’S achievements this year. 1st, violent crimes across @CountyofLA are down 15.15%. #SheriffV
2nd ICE transfers are down 53%, keeping true to my campaign promise that I would remove the ICE agents from our facilities. Jail violence has also decreased, despite the rise in in our inmate population.
3rd recruitment is up, a total 65% increase over the previous 4 year average. As Captain McBride stated, we achieved this by changing our culture. We seek qualified candidates but no longer treat them like criminals; a practice which previously dissuaded most from applying.
4th Civic engagement has increased as we completed 27 town halls to date in one year! I was able to speak to thousands of citizens across #LACounty, including out in Avalon.
The essence of #communitypolicing includes the people not only knowing who their Sheriff is, but knowing who the deputies are that patrol their communities. These town halls provide us the opportunity to accomplish that.#SheriffV
5th Body worn cameras are finally being distributed to 5 patrol stations: @CENLASD @INDLASD @WHDLASD @LKDLASD & @LANLASD. They will be equipped by Summer 2020.
Lastly, our @LASD_HOST team increased from a 4 person team to 15, allowing them connect with 1100 people and lead them to vital services to improve their quality of life.
