Okay, so, here are my first (public) thoughts of the day …
As many of you know, I started my career working for State Department at the American Embassy in The Hague.
Everyone deserves to feel safe and secure. (I’m an adult survivor of child abuse. So, yeah, words like “safety” and “security” have real meaning for me.)
It’s not a coincidence that I’ve dedicated my life to connecting folks with others, building a more loving and peaceful world — even down to the smallest parts, love between two or more people. #NatSec / #CulturalDiplomacy / #SoftPower funkybrownchick.com/bio/
As a country, we — especially Republicans (I'm obv not one) — have to get to a point where we truly understand what it means to be "safe".
If we already understood that, of course, we wouldn't have — as one example — daily mass shootings among fellow Americans, including so many tiny school children. But, I digress.
Most of you probably know this, but #NatSec traditionally includes:
✅ Diplomacy — make more friends, fewer enemies
✅ Democracy promotion — let people, not authoritarians lead
✅ Development — understand folks are less likely to come after you if you're helping them
... and ...
✅Defense — *** when/if *** they come after you (i.e. it's "defense" not "offense"), protect yourself.
Anything less than ALL of that makes us less, not more, safe. #NatSec
