So brilliant to be back at @RGS_IBG with colleagues from @PosNegOrg for #mathsofmigration CPD course using our @ESRC funded #MEDMIG data with teachers from across the UK. Excellent opportunity to engage young people in the complexities of migration to Europe
Thanks - as ever - to Jess from Oakland’s school for these brilliant examples from the students she works with of how the #MEDMIG data can be used in maths classes to educate and inform simultaneously
As a geographer I love a good map and I love the fact that young people are engaging with the stories and data from the #MEDMIG project to unpack #migrantjourneys. Also seems particularly appropriate given we are at the @RGS_IBG!
But also interesting to see how different young people take away different things from the #MEDMIG data whilst simultaneously learning about averages, percentages, working with formulas in Excel and a whole range of other maths skills
You can download many of the resources we are using today via the @PosNegOrg website positivenegatives.org/about/educatio…
The #MEDMIG data set can be downloaded free of charge from @UKDSrdm beta.ukdataservice.ac.uk/datacatalogue/…
And there are a whole bunch of resources (papers, policy papers, research briefs and photos) available on our #MEDMIG website. If you need anything else, just ask!
Thank you @pjw11114 for your feedback on our #maths of migration CPD course. To hear quantitative data - normally seen as ‘dry’ - described as ‘enthralling’ and learn about different ways teachers intend to make use of it #MEDMIG data really made my day!
