Latest update on Eskom BESS Project tender, is that it is planned for release in Q1 2020.
More importantly, the 200MW phase 1 project, made up entirely of battery storage and valued at $485m, has had its completion date revised to June 2021.

According to latest update from the World Bank, Eskom BESS Project received its final government approval from the Dept of Public Enterprises on 21st Nov 2019.
No more political barriers exist. So it's now purely about the Eskom finalising the tender.
