Arguments against are many & pertinent: can we air & sea maintain a large force? When at the height of their deployment Soviets with 1
25 lakh soldiers & the US post surge could not eliminate the threat posed by Pakistan army backed Taliban, can we do it with finite resources?
First the Soviets & then the US forces had infinite military, air, tech & money power. US despite knowing that the source of Taliban threat was in Pakistan did not degrade Pak military support to Taliban can Indian army with one hand tied behind back & HR rules make a difference?
But if India plays by the new rules of engagement, a Corps level force backed by adequate air assets could be Pakistan's worst nightmare. It wud split Pak mil resources. Destroy Pak peace of mind. If US were to provide the best available resources & fund it, would it be worth it?
The US was very keen for India to deploy troops in #Iraq. But that was not in India's interest or sphere of influence. Afghanistan is our backyard and affects our national interest directly. Can lessons learnt from #IPKF & countering terrorism & Pak for 3 decades be helpful here?
