.@fairfightaction is deploying resources to continue the bipartisan criminal justice reforms that I helped former Gov. Nathan Deal achieve.
Eight years of hard, important work whose progress may now be rolled back with Brian Kemp’s dangerous budget cuts. #gapol 1/
As GA’s House Dem Leader, I served on key committees critical to criminal justice reform, helped pass private probation reforms, remove licensure requirements, improve our parole system, and advocated for true diversity of representation in our courts. 2/

By eviscerating the effective reforms that Governor Deal and I worked together to pass, Kemp’s extreme budget cuts will drain resources from:
❌ public defenders
❌ accountability courts
❌ mental health programs

This is no accident: The fear-mongering rhetoric we hear from Kemp is a sad political ploy to maintain the final remnants of Republican dominance in Georgia. 4/
Rather than taking us back to days of high-cost, low-result policies, we should be continuing bipartisan efforts to make our state safe AND smart on crime. 5/
For me, this fight is personal. I focused on criminal justice reform during my time in the House and during my 2018 gubernatorial campaign. I shared the story of my brother, Walter. As he works on his recovery, his story isn’t an anomaly. 6/
I believe in redemption and justice, and so do millions of Georgians. 7/
Equal justice under GA law means a system based on fairness, accountability and restoration. We must do more than give lip service to Deal's legacy. We must work to protect it. 8/
