#HolySmokes.
My brain is on information overload. And I’m processing so much.
First off, spent the morning a with @KirwanInstitute at Ohio State.
Glennon Sweeney knocked my socks off.
fic.osu.edu/members/direct…
Her areas of research are vast, but today we focused on... god I can’t even distill it.
Urban planning and development. Redlining. Zoning policies. School districts. Brown v Board. Busing. Taxation.
Essentially, how and why we live in such a segregated society, but specifically how and why Columbus, OH is the way it is in 2020.
And I knew a lot of the historical policies existed. That was just refining my knowledge.
But the extent to which power, corruption, and greed dominate and dominated our society... yowsa.
We got into the interstate highway system for a minute. I asked Glennon, “how did the wealthy neighborhoods actually avoid the highways?”
The answer was relatively simple. The folks that made the choices either lived in those neighborhoods, or they had connects.
Damn.
