So about #SandersAnnouncement to keep running.
He mentioned a couple of things:
- Trump is dangerous
- He lost badly yesterday
- He is winning the youth vote
- His issues are popular
- Announced questions hes going to ask Biden in the debate
Two ways to interpret this 1/5
Way 1:
He is extending an olive branch to Biden and basically telling him how to appeal to Bernies base. He knows that some of his supporters have said they wouldn't vote for Biden. He is trying to make sure his ideological legacy survives by being incorporated. By giving 2/5
the questions ahead of time he is essentially giving Biden the chance to change his rhetoric in such a way as to satisfy Sanders.
Way 2:
Sanders is creating conditions where the debate has to be about his issues. The issues that he cares about and that he is strong on. 3/5
If nothing else it gives him a last chance to fully promote his platform before the march 17th primary and create some clear differences between himself and Biden.
In the worst case, he got to talk about his issues, in the best case, his issues live on in Biden's platform 4/5
going forward to the convention.
This is a very unconventional type of strategy, and is premised on the dedication his supporters have to Bernie.
If Bernie really wanted to do something crazy (and Biden gives good answers) he could even just endorse Biden live on the debate.
