BREAKING: Chelsea Manning has been officially released from the Alexandria Adult Detention Center.
Sheriff Dana Lawhorne gave a brief statement.
Manning’s lawyer, Moira Meltzer-Cohen, entered by vehicle and hasn’t left yet, so I’m waiting to see them leave the jail premises.
Followup: Sheriff’s Deputy says Manning has already left. Wouldn’t say whether she used back entrance, but it appears so.
Here is @xychelsea's legal team's statement on her release tonight, via @sparrowmedia.

Update: Last night, @xychelsea Manning was released at 7:45pm because “her testimony is no longer needed” but judge ordered her to pay the $256,000 in fines for refusing to testify.
16 hours later, her supporters have raised nearly 80K of that already.

It has now been exactly 24 hours since Alexandria’s Sheriff confirmed to me that Chelsea Manning had been released.
A fundraiser to pay her quarter-million dollar fine has already raised almost half the amount.
