After more than four and a half years of not having anyone executed, India is all set to execute Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma and Akshay Thakur on Friday, 20 March. The 4 were convicted for the gangrape and murder of the 23-year-old woman in 2012.

We share the extreme anguish and pain of the family of the victim and in no way wish to further their suffering. But we appeal to the Govt of India to halt the cycle of violence and stop the executions of the 4 convicted.
Executions do not stop violence against women.
There is no evidence to show that the death penalty acts as a unique deterrent. Two thirds of the countries have abolished #deathpenalty.
Instead, we call on the Govt of India to allocate adequate resources for the effective implementation of laws, improve conviction rates and ensure certainty of justice in all cases.
Even the Justice Verma Committee, whose recommendations were relied upon to reform laws on sexual assault and rape in the aftermath of the #NirbhayaCase, had opposed imposing the death penalty in cases of rape.
