Every year on March 17, the president celebrates #StPatricksDay, a holiday honoring the death of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Here is a thread of past presidential celebrations.

On March 17, 1980, President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter hosted a Saint Patrick's Day party. Guests were entertained with songs and readings from Irish literature in the East Room.

President John F. Kennedy visited with Irish Ambassador Thomas J. Kiernan in the Oval Office in 1963. Kiernan presented Kennedy with a shamrock-filled Waterford crystal vase etched with the portrait of James Hoban, White House architect.
