Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert, the British-Australian academic, remains imprisoned in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In anticipation of a pardon and release of prisoners to coincide with #Nowruz, the New Year in the country, I have taken the following steps. [1/6]
I have written to @khamenei_ir, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to request he include in his pardons – especially because of the Covid-19 pandemic at this time – Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert, alongside all other dual and foreign nationals. [2/6]
I have written to @antonioguterres, UN Secretary-General, to ask that favourable consideration be given to such pardons when addressing the concern of @JZarif, Foreign Minister, Islamic Republic of Iran, about the ongoing effect of sanctions on his country. [3/6]
I have also written to @KGeorgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, to request that favourable consideration be given to such pardons and any further releases in addressing Iran’s current request for a rapid financing facility. [4/6]
I sincerely hope that in the extraordinary crisis arising from the Covid-19 pandemic all parties will recognise that needs and interests are best advanced through cooperation. [5/6]
At this time of #Nowruz I wish you all good health and a brighter year ahead.
نوروز مبارک
Cc. @HassanRouhani, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. [6/6]
