There's A Lesson On Advertising In This Camp Story
So I said I was going to tell you stories about my stay at #NYSC camp, Wannune...
But you may already know what happened: All camps were shut down, and for my state; all corps members were sent to their L.G.As
It was a mix of emotions on Wednesday morning when the NYSC State director announced it to us.
Most of us had been complaining and wanted to leave Camp, but it came too sudden.
Like many other people, I was just beginning to make friends, especially after our kitchen duties...
...as a platoon.
Platoon 5 (my platoon) assisted the cooks throughout Tuesday; for breakfast, lunch and dinner. 😊
A lot of us spoke to each other for the first time after a full week.
It was our only consolation for the variety of camp events that we couldn't experience.

But then at our local governments, something interesting happened during our posting to our PPAs (Primary Place of Assignments).
We learnt there's Buruku North and there's Buruku Central (where we arrived on Wednesday).
Corps members were going to be posted to schools in both..
Also, there's the other region which is across a river.
Everyone immediately wished they wouldn't be sent there.
Our Local Government Inspector (L.G.I.) told us over and over again that this "across-the-river" region had the best welfare, and corps members posted there wouldn't
...need to come over for CDS every week; they could come once in a month.
But most of us entertained the fears of the river, even though we would be expected once a month.
We all preferred to think we were safer on this side...
LGI didn't convince us.
Some corps members...
..volunteered to go across the river. They went on Friday, (today).
And this is where it gets interesting!
They came back with juicy news: Across-the-river was indeed the best!
The school received them well and gave them some money (for tfare: as stated in the posting letter)
To be specific, #5000.
The corps members saw their lodge; a comfortable flat that had shower (We have never seen a borehole on this side: we draw dusty water from wells here😭), a Television and DSTV.
The house had cushion, not plastic chairs and a nice bed. They didn't have...
...light but there was a stand-by generator which the corps members would fuel, and the school would give them a stipend of #5000...
No! It is not small.
It's the highest pay in Buruku L.G.A.
The highest on this side is #4000, my PPA doesn't pay corps members at all, neither..
...do they offer any form of accomodation.
You can imagine our reaction as we heard all these.
The "Across-the-river" colleagues even had cold malt drinks! The school gave them too! And assured them that they wouldn't stress about food.
What's the lesson on advertising here?
Specificity!
Details!
Don't generalize anything.
To persuade, tell all there is to know, especially information that tickles the audience.
In our case, the 'shower' was a strong point. Everyone's jaw drops once it's mentioned.
5K stipend every month for each corper...
Together with all extras from the school's management, you'll hardly touch your 33K allawee (allowance).
If all these details were mentioned, many people's fears would have calmed.
To persuade us, don't just tell us, "We have the best welfare."
Tell us HOW in DETAILS.
