QUESTION: NEW #COVID19 Lockdown Imposed in China's Henan Province After Fresh Cases Emerge. This serious development, will likely impact the rest of the world. We asked #Biodefense expert @gregkoblentz what this means. Follow this thread for the answer.

ANSWER: “Sounds like China doesn't have #COVID19 under control after all. Not surprising that the vectors in this case are doctors who were treating patients in Wuhan.

This is an important demonstration of the risks of declaring victory and lifting or relaxing #socialdistancing measures prematurely. On the plus side, good that the authorities are imposing a lockdown on the province before it gets worse.

The role of asymptomatic patients/carriers is one of the more puzzling aspects of this outbreak and until we get a much better handle on the prevalence of such cases and their risks of transmission it will be hard to be confident that an outbreak is really under control.

Overall, since China is "ahead" of us in their experience with the virus its important to follow what happens there as a preview of the challenges we may be facing in a few weeks time.”
