The #NHSX mobile tracing app announcement makes many positive claims about user data and privacy.

There’s nothing in the blog however to explain:

• Will it work with Apple / Google protocol;
• If contact matching done on device as per above

If the @NHSEngland app doesn’t work as per Apple / Google’s protocol, then there are *huge* issues over whether it will work without hitting battery life.

As we explain on our blog:`

We need clarity, or a car crash argument may ensue.

Clarity over purposes and how they are met is needed.

And the NHS needs to state plainly if they are leveraging the new Google / Apple API or not. #Covid19UK

From the @NHSEngland blog, this reads roughly

“We will do contact matching centrally (so won’t be able to leverage Apple / Google’s APU”

They say:

“We are working with Apple and Google on their welcome support for tracing apps around the world.”

Translation: “We are hoping they change their minds”.

Then emphasises transparency.

We are engaging in Sovietology here, not transparent debate.
