#SomeGoodNews For Lisa my daughter seen here with service dog Cleo some good news has often come with the bad. Diagnosed last year with primary progressive MS compromising her immune system bad news is she had to cancel a trip to Disney World for husband’s birthday before it ...

... was closed because of coronavirus. But newer good news is she recently learned she could work her full time job as a sign language interpreter between hearing & deaf at home instead of at her call center potentially exposed to coronavirus. Likewise via Zoom as an ordained ...

... minister she can hold services for the two churches she serves on weekends. Older bad news was she went suddenly deaf at age 30. But good news is when she was student teaching to be a music teacher she took a bus trip with a H.S. from WV to FL & two deaf students who ...

... taught her some sign language which she kept up with even while a band director and later going to seminary. Coincidentally she was a pastor at a deaf church out of our hometown when she suddenly became deaf. Double Cochlear implants letting her hear again probably made...

... it easier to talk to and get to know her eventual husband Patrick there. As for Patrick he already had a below knee amputation. You can see in the photo my daughter has an above knee amputation but she didn’t then. Patrick gave up his job and moved away from his family...

... and friends was stressful and having more operations and not being able to work put stress on him because he wanted to work - but good news was he had my daughter to help and care for him. As for my daughter’s amputation she had nerve pain in her knee Hopkins and Mayo ...

... she had two good legs despite fact same ins co had approved removal of leg. That got straightened out and Patrick who had been taken care of now got to take care of her. Don’t get me wrong it seems to me they fight too much and get their feelings hurt too easily but ...

... on the other hand both the spontaneous and deeply abiding love they have for each other makes me happy. Even if Cochlear implants had not worked for her ( they don’t for everybody ) she would have been able to continue as minister at the all deaf church where she was at the..

... time. I attended there once and they didn’t have a hearing interpreter for me. My daughter helped at a deaf/blind camp and I was amazed how she could sign into hands and also what some of the deaf blind could do - good news is we’ve come SO FAR since Heen Keller & so ...

... many people are willing to volunteer to help. As for her artificial leg - amazing - but with weight loss sometimes some hilarity when it fell off before socket replacements. Good news on the horizon for her is an osteopath - integrated socket that could be ( if it weren’t ...

... for coronavirus postponements ) inserted into a stell rod inserted in the bone in the thigh - so perfectly aligned easy to snap on and off compared to vacuum attachments around thigh. Previously reserved for soldiers with missing limbs but now FDA approved for civilians.

So, bad news for Lisa is no new socket until coronavirus threat to her compromised immune system. Bad news for Patrick and Lisa no special birthday trip to Walt Disney World again because of coronavirus. But good news is they have hope, and health, and each other.
