Speaking of @Ancestry ... I just finished watching the #DaughtersOf interview with #NikkiGiovanni & #AngelaDavis. It's WONDERFUL!! 💙💙💙 (This year will mark my 5th year of walking with @GirlTrek.)

I'm named after #AngelaDavis, Twanna Angela Hines. My parents were teachers & Black Panther party members. My mother spent her career as an educator in the prison system — teaching incarcerated people how to read, a life skill needed to reintegrate after release. #DaughtersOf
My sister is Nicole, a Nikki.
The #NikkiGiovanni & #AngelaDavis conversation was really powerful. I LOVE Nikki's unabashed and direct style of speaking. A member of the audience asked how she might be able to love herself more. Nikki's response?
"Tell yourself you are wonderful. Keep the fuck saying it." — #NikkiGiovanni #DaughtersOf @GirlTrek
Too often, #MothersDay turns into this weird fetishization of motherhood — without acknowledging daughters who are transwomen, lesbians, estranged from their mothers, incarcerated, struggling with infertility and can't have children who are #DaughtersOf themselves, and more.
Excited about hearing from — and lifting up — folks who are mothers and/or #DaughtersOf stories that aren't traditionally celebrated.
