Well, folks, this is what the union I willingly pay dues to is proposing pre-emptively, before any financials are revealed, and with no return guarantee from the employers. Yes, really. National Jobs Protection Framework issuu.com/nteu/docs/nati… via @issuu

Let’s be clear: the uni peak body is saying we’re looking at 25k jobs being but. And the union is proposing we hand over our wages, pensions, promotions and holidays to save HALF the jobs. Without any mandate from the members. They missed the memo on union democracy.

This, dear readers, is also a union on the ropes, with little industrial power and very thin relationships on the shop floor.’ It’s member engagement is very low and the prospect of any imaginative job action has NEVER been raised. Only concessions. 😳

For those off shore who are union nerds, it will@also not surprise you that in the middle of the biggest industrial crisis in decades (ever?) the union has precipitated an INTERNAL crisis by its failure to consult its members. Consequently.../

At the precise time we should be mobilising, doing creative networking and campaigns, and sewing bonds of local, regional and national solidarity, we are in a constitutional and leadership crisis. What a case study in union failure this will be one day. And so avoidable. 😓

I’d also like to add that our uni VC (head honcho) has refused to sign on to the proposed Ntl Framework b/c because he believes the current union agreement at our uni should a) provide the mechanisms to deal with our issues and b) stand because WE VOTED FOR IT. Right? Sigh.

My uni has, so far, been relatively excellent to FT continuing staff. No changes to workload in my faculty. Recognition of additional workload in pandemic transition online. No announcement of widespread job cuts (yet.) I’m lining up sessional for T2..../

The bite will come, to be sure. But when my employer appears to be more transparent, accountable and reasonable than the union, as the saying goes...
