I've been working for a camping ground do some analysis for their business.

At the moment the tourism industry is needing to change focus from overseas tourists to domestic tourists, so it's a good time to do target the capital expenditure carefully. I'm helping with that.

I ran a survey and got a fairly good response. It found some interesting things about how to target the marketing and who was responding from different methods. But I also found that about 15% of people complained about the bathrooms.

I could have just said "you need to improve the bathrooms" but I feel like that would be a bit generic, so I dug a bit deeper. I broke those complaints into 5 categories, and then mapped them, based on where they were staying.

That was really interesting.

I found that there were two particular bathrooms that there were complaints about.

The owner knew that she needed to do something about the bathrooms, but she now knows which ones, and what she needs to do. She also noticed something else.

A number of the complaints about there being not enough showers were staying very close to a shower block that was hardly being used. She had wondered if it was superfluous, or if people didn't know it was there.

She's getting some new signs ordered now for them.

The result of this analysis (which has not cost her very much) is that she's saved thousands of dollars, and ensured that people will be happier next year. She knows that the number one driver of new business is word of mouth referrals, so happier campers = more demand.

If you have a business that could benefit from this sort of thing, flick me a line.

If you're in an industry that's suffering disproportionately from Covid19 I'm prepared to do it at a lower rate too. Times are tough, so it's good to have information to guide your spending.
