Today’s anti-racism protest in Parliament Square was such a beautiful, peaceful gathering of people remembering the names of #GeorgeFlyod, #BreonnaTayor, #BellyMujinga, #markduggan and too many other who have been brutally killed by sistemic racism.
People kneeled, chanted, sung. They called on the Uk to stop exporting arms to the USA, to decolonize British curricula, to end the disproportionate use of stop and search on BAME communities
They called on ordinary people to become anti-racist. Non being racist is not enough
thousands of people who gathered under the rain and willingly ignored the lockdown: this shows the seriousness of their calls against the racist status quo. I hope this will be a wake up call for many.
I hope those who have the power who change the status quo will do something. I hope those who do ‘not see colour’ will embark on a process to understand that white privilege exists, and that they actually benefit from it
