I was feeling deeply overwhelmed today, then had a good talk with @mayacriesalot. A reminder for myself and others:
- We saw some unprecedented wins in the last weeks, but this is still a longterm fight. We are not going to defund/abolish all policing this week, and that's okay.
- This moment is urgent, but it's also ongoing. We should be just as committed to learning about and advocating for police and prison abolition next week, next month, next year, as we are right now.
- None of us have to hold it down, intervene, educate, or plan out the next phases of movement alone. Ego tells us it's all on us, but it never was, and it never will be. We are in this together, and we can only win by fighting together.
- Moments of victory will continue to come and go, rise and fall. Seeds we planted years ago sprouted this week. They will continue to grow, and no amount of deflection, reformism, nor cooptation can undo that. We will not win everything in this moment, but we are winning.
