I 100% didn't understand Seattle's autonomous zone until a friend just showed me what was going on. The zone was established by Seattleites after days of clashes between police and protesters. The police finally left and people took over. What happened next is truly nuts.

Here's the abandoned police precinct.

Here's the whole zone. Known as CHAZ (Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone).

Here's one of the community gardens that sprang up in the zone. People literally just gardening together in the park.

Another garden. People eating together and hanging out. Families planting things.

My friend told me people set up tents to watch over the vegetables. I don't have a pic of it but there's a free food co-op set up a block or so away.

One of the reasons I left Seattle is because I felt like the spirit of the city had died (or been trampled by tech companies). It's clear Seattle can thrive if police and corporations leave it the fuck alone. Thanks for the pics @mostzef
