Update: 54 African countries introduced draft resolution at the UN Human Rights Council mandating the establishment of international independent investigation into police killings and repression of protests. This is huge deal! #BlackLivesMattters #HRC43
The draft resolution mandates the creation of an independent international commission of inquiry to investigate systemic racism and abuses against Black people in the United States and other parts of the world.
The draft resolution also mandates the commission of inquiry to examine the federal, state and local government responses to peaceful protests, including the alleged use of excessive force against protesters, bystanders and journalists.
The draft resolution and urgent meeting come in response to demand by families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Philando Castile and Michael Brown, supported by @ACLU & over 600 groups including @USHRN @Mvmnt4BlkLives @NAACP to establish int'l inquiry into police violence. #hrc43
Now is the time to call or email U.N. missions in Geneva (tinylink.net/IGjjN) especially members of the @UN_HRC and urge them to stand on the right side of history and in support of the movement for Black lives. Demand an independent int’l commission of inquiry now.
