Some people are saying that we should not ban Chinese apps like TikTok. But should we do it or should we not. Now, you might not be politically inclined but you have to be a fool to ignore this. —— Note: read the entire thread connected to this tweet. 1/
Interestingly, Google had earlier removed some apps which helped you remove Chinese apps. It is interesting to note that: 1) Google is an American company. 2) USA is worst affected by the Chinese virus 3) Google collects enormous amounts of data from Android users 2/
4) Nearly all Android phones are made in China and majority of the brands in the market (Xiaomi, Vivo/Oppo/OnePlus, Lenovo, Huawei etc.) are Chinese. — So if you combine the facts, Google as of now is in bed with China. 3/
A former senior level exec from Google had some serious things to say about how Google was handling China and planning to return to China for more profits. Here is the commentary by Washington Post: washingtonpost.com/technology/202… Just in case you thought Google is great, read it! 4/
Here is the actual text he wrote (in case you too don’t trust media like me): medium.com/@rossformaine/… One thing is pretty clear — Google seems to be very, very eager to get into China and it’s apparent that it is favouring China big time! So how does it concern you or me? 5/
First: Data Privacy. The first tweet in the thread shows how TikTok is aggressively collecting all that you type (even before posting on the platform). This is dangerous, especially today. (Planning to write a separate thread in that soon — please follow if interested) 6/
Second: We have seen the aggressiveness of China in the real world - and it is important to not support the aggressors. One of the largest sources of income for China is manufacturing, especially electronics and chiefly mobiles among them. 7/
Android phones make up the majority of that. Let’s sum up those things — Android belongs to Google. Manufacturing companies of Android phones are in China. Google wants to enter China desperately. Now let’s take a diversion towards a small country named Taiwan. 8/
Taiwan is a country that has been fighting China since long. It wants to be called sovereign and independent. But China claims it as its own. During the discussions about the pandemic, WHO dodged the question about Taiwan (see video). 9/
There is a lot of history about Taiwan. If you are interested, please go through en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political… and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Na… and note how US favoured Taiwan but China just wanted to grab the land of Taiwan and that it is ready to use military power to get it. 10/
So why am I talking about Taiwan in a thread that concerns Google and TikTok? Because of China and Wistron. What’s Wistron? Wistron is a electronics manufacturing company that makes a LOT of electronic devices for multiple companies. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wistron 11/
One of the main products that Wistron makes is iPhone. Also, it is THE manufacturer of Apple devices in India. in.reuters.com/article/us-ind… So here is the conclusion that I wanted to arrive at — When you buy an iPhone that was made in India, you are... (contd.) 12/
1. Buying from an American company (Apple), not a Chinese one.
2. Helping a Taiwanese company gain profits, not a Chinese one.
3. Helping manufacturing infrastructure take shape in India rather than helping the Chinese manufacturing infra.
(...contd) 13/
4. Protecting your data (at least you will know when TikTok is copying your “non-published/non-posted text”) from the prying eyes of Google and China both.
5. In short you will be doing #CKMKB (China Ka Maal Karo Bahishkar)! 14/
PS: I will be posting on Importance of data collection via electronic methods in near future too. I am working on a few more topics and threads. Shameless plug - Kindly follow to stay updated. 15/15
