Looks like e-commerce companies like @amazonIN and @Flipkart are ignoring the guidelines and allowing shady companies to do massive business in India. Read on (and please share it enough to make the voice heard).

A friend got a new MacBook Pro with all USB-C ports and that means he needed an adapter to plug in his old USB devices and his extra monitor that uses HDMI. So he opens up Amazon and start searching. Comes across the following product: amazon.in/TOTU-Adapter-E…

Wikipedia today shows me a huge banner asking to donate. I have been donating small sums, now and then (typically about 1-2K INR) throughout the year. This time I am NOT GOING TO DONATE. Why? 1/ Because Wikipedia tries to be a democracy of information. It relies on online publications (so-called news sites) for citation. Given the fact that Wikipedia was created Jimmy Wales, who also created Wikitribune to suppress fake news and propaganda, Wikipedia shd know better 2/

Why does “kaadha” and “ajwain” work? I saw a troll making fun of Ayurvedic practices and that reminded me of something. A single web search and this comes up. Some people are saying that we should not ban Chinese apps like TikTok. But should we do it or should we not. Now, you might not be politically inclined but you have to be a fool to ignore this. —— Note: read the entire thread connected to this tweet. 1/ Interestingly, Google had earlier removed some apps which helped you remove Chinese apps. It is interesting to note that: 1) Google is an American company. 2) USA is worst affected by the Chinese virus 3) Google collects enormous amounts of data from Android users 2/

Aryasattva Pharmaceuticals - That’s the name of the imaginary company in Hotstar series “Aarya”. Company tag line: “Jisme hai sattva ke gun”. And the company’s owner is running a illegal drugs racket according to the story. Why do ppl agree to act in such series? @thesushmitasen There are dozens of western names available. The majority of Indian medical drugs market is flooded my western allopathy medicines with appropriate western names. It’s not even difficult to come up with an imaginary name on those lines. But what did they choose?

This thread is about "what's in a name".

That's one thing people like to quote from Shakespeare a lot when showing off an idea without telling who actually thought about it. But names, do matter.

Especially in Bollywood.

1/
The first one that comes to mind is Mr. Dilip Kumar. A fine actor and one of my personal favourites. But he wasn't always Dilip Kumar. He was "Mohammad Yusuf Khan".

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dilip_Kum…

But he is one of the most well known ones (probably because of his fame).

Looks like ppl are asking “who throws ink when attacking?” I remember eggs being thrown before robbing was a trend once. Ink like eggs is supposed to distort the visibility for the driver and force him to stop!

About “why not shoot?” - they might have been killed on spot if they attempted that (Y level security!!?) so maybe that was the reason? 2/

This thread is about *Racism* and why calling the novel CoronaVirus as #ChineseVirus is not racist.

So what is Racism? The definition of Racism in Wikipedia is worth noting (in next tweet in thread). Link:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism

1/
"Racism is the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to physical appearance and can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another. It may also mean prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against other"

This thread is about detecting propaganda (thefreedictionary.com/propaganda), especially on Twitter. How it is formulated, how it is spread and how is it pushed. Let's start with what's trending right now - #DoNotArrestAnand

1/
Twitter says that #DoNotArrestAnand is trending. And when you click on the hash tag, you get to see all the tweets that one is making about it. In this particular case you can see a lot of Tweets which basically repeat in unison "It is wrong to arrest Mr. Anand"

How to detect #FakeNews 101: An Indian reporter retweeting an article from a foreign newspaper - whose own reports can't be covering the ground reality in India right now. Also notice the wording of the heading.

1/ The article in the link clearly states this:

The Tribune has reported that India manufactures around 20 crore HCQ tablets of 200 mg each every month and local consumption averages 2.40 crore tablets a year.

This thread is about public safety, including your own from multiple angles.

1/n I rcvd a video from one of my social contacts about a street vegetable vendor indirectly licking all his vegetables he is selling. Be careful when buying vegetables. 2/n In another video posted on Twitter, it looks like the packager is spitting in the food packets. This is akin to what I had said in my tweet thread earlier (). Do not buy food online!

The tweet where the video was posted:

1/n This thread is about physical social distancing. I request you to read the entire thread. An infection on this scale has not occurred in the last 100 years. I trust @Aabhas24 to unravel the mysteries about how it started but that's not the point I am trying to make here. 2/n We have all been advised by all kinds of political and medical groups to stay at home and avoid physical contact with others. Why? Because we might get infected. But we can't survive in complete loneliness, can we? So who to stay away from, how to avoid getting infected?

1/n This thread is about the media. The media we trust and distrust, follow and hate and why it is the way it is. This has been building up since quite some time now and it's going to be long. So bear with me. 2/n We have been blaming mainstream media since quite some time now for reporting (or misreporting) events across India. We have been blaming movie stars for being bigots who refuse to listen to the other side of argument.
