If I had to wager... I’d wager against schools opening even partially in September in most local school systems. Tough call... but I’d put my money on “not”. So many q’s about class size, transpiration, equity, budgets, older teachers, liability
And so many dominoes fall. Workforce - parents who can’t leave kids home alone. Lost learning - distance learning is ... um... less than optimal. Mental health - children not in school suffer and can’t be monitored for possible abuse at home
Standardized testing and graduation requirements seem certain to be waived. Some parents don’t mind, but how do we measure pedagogy and achievement
Social regression of kids. Seems certain
This is the education crisis of our times..... but is being overshadowed by health fears, economic collapse and (well) summer vacation in schools
Using open records law, I’ve been collecting correspondences sent by parents to local school systems this month. (Don’t worry, names are redacted). But to put it mildly- there are many, many parents who do NOT want their kids in school buildings right now
