312 new Indiana #coronavirus cases and five newly reported deaths, bringing the death toll to 2,432. Counting presumptive #COVID19 cases, the total death toll is now 2,624.
626 Hoosiers are hospitalized with #coronavirus, nine more than yesterday. 265 of those patients are in ICU, one fewer than yesterday; that may correspond with the one death which occurred yesterday among the five newly reported.
ISDH has also released its weekly update on #covid1 cases in #longtermcare: 195 new cases in the last week, with 9 facilities recording their first cases. 26 more deaths bring the LTC death toll to 1,166, 44% of the statewide toll. That's a hair above the national avg of 43%.
The 312 new cases is the lowest in 12 days. Monday numbers are typically lower because of reduced reporting over the weekend; it's 5.1% of newly reported tests. A quick subthread on that figure:
There appears to be some confusion over the positivity rate. ISDH's daily case count reflects the new positives reported the previous day. But the amount of time it takes to get test results back varies; today's report includes tests from the last week. Nearly half were done Wed.
Correction -- nearly half today's report is from Thursday, not Wednesday.
Since ISDH lists tests by the day they were *performed*, but positives by the date they were *returned*, some people are looking at, say, Friday, dividing that day's positives by total tests, and coming out with 17%. But as more tests come in, that % will decline.
If you just look at the dates, you end up concluding that 336% of yesterday's tests were positive. Reductio ad absurdum (Latin for "that dog won't hunt").
