Today is a good day to read the Declaration of Independence with an eye toward its meaning and to place it into the context of today.

The Declaration of Independence was our statement to the world that we will not allow ourselves to be ruled by a tyrant who would do us harm. We must now ask ourselves if we continue to live up to that sentiment. The following represents that which we separated ourselves from.
He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
- trump refuses to comply with legally issued subpoenas.
- trump is literally individual-1 named in a crime his attorney went to prison for.
He has forbidden his governors to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his assent should be obtained; and when so obtained he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
- Governors DeSantis and Kemp refused to issue mask orders.
He has endeavored to prevent the population of these states; for that purpose obstructing the laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither.
- There are children kept in cages at our border at this very moment.
He has made judges dependent on his will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
- Who exactly paid off Brett Kanavaugh’s baseball tickets and credit cards?
He has affected to render the military independent of and superior to the civil power.
- trump was escorted by a uniformed general as he gassed Americans in Lafayette Park so he could get his picture taken with a book he has not read.
For imposing taxes on us without consent.
- Tariffs are paid by the American consumer.
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of trial by jury.
- Jeffrey Epstein never made it to trial.
- Barr tried to fire the prosecutor who was investigating Epstein’s accomplice.
He has abdicated government here, by declaring us out of his protection and waging war against us.
- Not only did trump seek and receive foreign help in our elections to win, he is doing it again.
- Over 129,654 Americans have died from the Coronavirus and trump does nothing.
The above is our history. The above is our present. What we did then was to stand up for ourselves. We denounced our treatment seeking better. We demanded a better path forward based on our desires, not that of a tyrant. What will we do now? Are we still seeking better?
What exactly are you celebrating this 4th of July? If you’re celebrating being American, wake up to your duty this Declaration of Independence demands. It demands we fight for freedom for all. It demands we call out and fight against hypocrisy. It demands we be patriots.
Happy 4th of July, happy Independence Day. Just remember what you’re celebrating.
