In downtown Portland Oregon on July 4th. Here we have the customary flag burning at the previous home of the elk statue in front of the Justice Center. #Portlandprotest #blacklivesmatter  #PDXprotests #pdx #portlandoregon #blm #4thofJuly #portland
So many fireworks in just the 20 minutes I’ve been here. Some folks in the crowd definitely are against the fireworks, either due to safety or cause they freak people out into thinking it’s a flashbang or gunfire. #Portlandprotest #fireworks #blm #blacklivesmatter #4thofJuly #pdx

Today is a good day to read the Declaration of Independence with an eye toward its meaning and to place it into the context of today.

A #4thofJuly thread
The Declaration of Independence was our statement to the world that we will not allow ourselves to be ruled by a tyrant who would do us harm. We must now ask ourselves if we continue to live up to that sentiment. The following represents that which we separated ourselves from.
He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

- trump refuses to comply with legally issued subpoenas.
- trump is literally individual-1 named in a crime his attorney went to prison for.

Dr. King believed that we would "gain our freedom in America because the goal of America is freedom" He believed in the American promise of equality referring to the "sacred heritage of our nation and the eternal will of God".
#4thofJuly #FourthofJuly2020
On this Independence Day I ask you to consider a very simple question? Could Dr. King have spoken freely, marched peacefully and changed his country if he lived in the Soviet Union in the 60s.

As we watch the good people of Hong Kong lose the rights and freedoms we
take for granted - I think we should all stop a moment and thank God. We owe a great debt to our Founders for their idealistic vision, those who fought and died to keep the dream alive, and those who spoke for all to share these God given rights.

Happy 244th Birthday America.

Reflections on #4thofJuly2020

There is an attempt to cultivate fear that the movement pressing for racial justice,
2/ trying to fix our justice system, & remove symbols that reinforce white supremacy is REALLY trying to "destroy America" or erase its history or past. Fear is a powerful force. It stifles imagination, raises defenses & prohibits empathy. It causes us to hear things not there.
3/ When we say "systemic racism" or "America's original sin" or critique the paradoxically themed "Independence Day", other things are heard. Here's a quick rundown.

I recently had a conversation with a self described "middle aged, very conservative white guy."

I am incredibly blessed to live in this nation where I am free to live a life of my own making.

I can worship God freely & openly with no fear of imprisonment.

I can criticize my government loudly & publicly without getting "disappeared". (1/4)
I can pick any job I want to have without worrying about being turned down because of my ethnicity or sex.

I get paid the same as my male counterparts for the same job & we can both compete for the same roles. (2/4)
I can have a diverse group of friends who think, look or live differently than me & no one would bat an eye.

America isn't perfect. What makes America great is the fact that we are constantly working to get closer to our ideals of freedom. (3/4)

Non-Natives before you post videos like this make sure you first ask and accurately state what is going on. He didn't just start dancing, he's counting coup. When we dance in the face of the enemy, it's never just "dancing", it's ceremony, prayer, medicine, courage and mercy.
For you Non-Natives, during intertribal battles and war, the ultimate honor or act of bravery was to count coup - meaning to get close enough to touch an enemy without causing harm or death.
Woke up to see this getting attention and see a lot of Non-Natives following the lead of the non-Native filming who said "That's a bessing, sir". To be clear, it was not a blessing 🤣 it was an act of war, it was disgracing, shaming and defeating the officer by showing mercy.

This is a time for sober, well-informed, transparent leadership & for MPs journalists & experts to challenge govt where they go wrong.

An Inquiry in 2021? What for?

We know what went wrong & why.

We know the govt ignored warnings.

We know this not sheer incompetence/bumbling.

By @Soul_Journeys

People caught up in left and right seriously have no clue.

So so boring to watch so many beg to give their power away to a savior... Ignoring all atrocities of the past, because hey, it's your party and your mind control is better than the others!!
Remember, all those caught up in picking your sides will perish due to the beast you WARship... Besides the fact that you are already dead, which is evident by your willingness to choose politics over people.
You can have your slave master but to expect anyone else to fall for your stupidity only shows how truly lost you really are.

PSA: Illicit fireworks rattle NYC. I know it's American tradition, and we're all desperate for some jubilation, but if folks knew the grim colonial-racist history, they'd be less inclined to see fireworks as celebratory. Remedial history with a dash of science below. #4thofJuly
(2) The primary gunpowder in fireworks is potassium nitrate, commonly known as saltpeter. In the young United States, saltpeter was imported from the British India colonies.
(3) During the Civil War, after the Trent Affair, the British government suspended the saltpeter supply to the U.S. It was eventually restored, but the Union blocked the Confederacy from access to the (im)ports.

🇺🇸Just Remember Why Our Freedom Is So Important. We live in the most free country in the world but it’s important to know why we have that right.

Here is a little reminder, AND a WHOLE LOT of perspective....
Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

5 signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died.
12 had their homes ransacked and burned.
2 lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army,
another had two sons captured.
9 of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.
They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they?

24 were lawyers and jurists. 11 were merchants,
