Just in: US President, Donald Trump, has issued a executive order to address the status of Hong Kong after Beijing inserted the new national security law in late June. #HongKongProtests
Trump may make into policy to suspend or eliminate different and preferential treatment for the city to protect the US’s national security, foreign policy, and economic interest.
Travelling may be affected if you are holding a Hong Kong SAR passport, as Trump announces to eliminate the preference for Hong Kong SAR passport holders as compared to the People’s Republic of China passport holders.
Intellectual exchanges might also be discouraged, as Trump would take steps to terminate the Fulbright exchange programme with regard to China and Hong Kong. Such termination is applicable to future exchanges for participants travelling both from and to China or Hong Kong.
US would also end the provision of training to members of the Hong Kong Police Force or other Hong Kong security services. Based on humanitarian concerns, refugee admissions would apply to Hong Kong residents.
Hong Kong people are, technically, considered refugees.
