We got an email from the OCSB yesterday asking about our school plans for the fall. Honestly, we don't have any plans until we see their plans. But seeing what they're proposing so far, I have real concerns as a mom to three #Longhaulers.
Obviously, we want to prevent our kids from getting sick. That should be our first and foremost concern. But we can't eliminate all risk, which means that some kids are going to get sick. So what happens then?
How long do kids have to stay home if they get sick? When can they return? Can they go back to school if they still have symptoms as long as they had a negative test? Or do they have to stay home as long as they have symptoms?
If kids have to be symptom-free,then Kid 3 would not have been allowed in a classroom for 4 straight months and would still not be allowed back even now.
What happens if they start showing symptoms again after a period of being asymptomatic? If no symptoms, Kid 1 would have been in & out of school repeatedly for the past four months. Even Kid 2, who has been largely asymptomatic for the past couple weeks, was sneezing again today.
And if kids are not allowed in a classroom as long as they have symptoms, then how do we make sure these kids aren't left behind? The OCSB is talking about online cohorts. Will they be added to an online cohort? Or will they be on their own?
Of course, all of this would be easier to plan for if we had good research on what is happening with #CovidLonghaul, when #Longhaulers stop being infectious, and what therapies or treatments work best for Longhaulers. #Covid19 #ApresJ120 @PublicHealthON
