Thank you for all your good wishes, suggestions and advice. Everywhere I’ve been since this announcement was made, there has mostly been a spontaneous outpouring of support and EXPECTATION! It has become necessary to clarify a few things regarding this. Thread...

I have been appointed a member of a Steering Committee. A Steering Committee provides guidance and helps develop policy for the approval of the President and the Federal Executive Council. It does NOT implement. It oversees and facilitates the work of a Technical Committee.

As a member, I am therefore NOT in a position to award contracts or offer employment. What I will do is to insist that any such contracts or employment are done openly and transparently and that no Steering Committee member should benefit, to avoid a conflict of interest.

I will not see any data or be involved in any contracts or recruitment. I would therefore advise all the people sending proposals and CVs to look out for appropriate adverts. I would, however, be grateful for high-level ideas and leads about how we could do our work better.

I am not oblivious to the political economy issues around procurement and recruitment in Nigeria. One thing I can promise is that I will always insist on transparency and due process, and the enthronement of merit within the Constitutional principles of Federal Character.

Lastly, I am in full-time employment and my employers are supportive of my service to Nigeria. It is not my expectation that any honorarium or sitting allowance offered by the Federal Government will adequately compensate my employers for the time I’ll spend on this. God bless.✌🏽
