A bunch of you have been asking @newslaundry what is #NLsena and how it works.
Here are some answers.
1/n
Step 1: Our editors take a decision on a story that requires deep investigation, intense reporting and a lot of digging.
Ex: @sighyush and @Basantrajsonu are currently investigating the Delhi riots. #NLsena stories are being put out in English & Hindi.

Step 2: We put up the project on newslaundry.com/sena, putting up a target amount and asking people to contribute.
It's essentially a crowdfunding project.
Ex: This project is currently up!
Step 3: Once the amount is collected, we assign resources to it. Reporters, designers, producers, editors and researchers. They start digging!
Ex: Here's a detailed #NLsena story on Central Vista project. @SyedHameeda and 3 others spent a month on this.

Step 4: After the story is written, our editorial does fact-checking and further research. Meanwhile, our producers figure out video + audio elements and designers start working on the images.
Also, our developer figures out how it will look on the website! Also important.
Step 5: It is published on newslaundry.com!
We also engage external subject matter experts to do these project. The latest instance of this is @kaul_vivek's fabulous piece on the real estate market.

#NLSena allows us to go after stories which legacy media ignores because it becomes to expensive to investigate it deeply.
The reason why we're able to break that is because YOU, the contributors, help us do it!
