Since @HouseDemocrats sent the #HeroesAct to @senatemajldr's desk **checks notes** 73 days ago, we've seen 2.8 million new cases of COVID and more than 61,000 deaths. Today, we got a look at their response: the #HEALSAct. It'd be laughable if it wasn't so cruel. Let's review.
It includes Liability Protection, meaning you will have no legal recourse to sue your employers for COVID related illness or death...
but no hazard pay for essential workers.
$1.6 billion for Customs and Border Protection...
but no protections for immigrants (unlike the #HeroesAct). vox.com/2020/5/15/2125…
$686 million for fighter jets and uh, a few other things...
but not one dollar for the USPS, or to make sure everyone can vote safely this November.
$2 billion for a new FBI building across the street from Trump's hotel (apparently, even @senatemajldr was surprised by this one)...
but it CUTS unemployment insurance from $600 to $200 and fails to fully fund state and local governments.
To the @SenateGOP: this bill is a lobbyist wishlist. And it's unacceptable.
Call your senators and demand they pass:
✅ $3.6B in election $
✅ $25B for USPS
✅ Addtl $1200 to individuals including immigrants and dependents over 16
✅ Moratorium on evictions and foreclosures
✅ Expanded paid sick/family leave for all
✅ Free testing and treatment for all
