/6 The crackdown on dissent continues during the #COVID19 pandemic. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrests Delhi university professor, MT Hany Babu in the Bhima Koregaon case. This makes the 12th arrest in this case.

/6 The NIA alleges that Hany Babu was 'propagating Naxal activities and Maoist ideologies' and was a 'co-conspirator in the 2017 Bhima Koregaon riots'. #BK12 #FreeBK12

/6 The 12 who have been arrested in the Bhima Koregaon case have worked to defend the rights of some of India’s poorest and most marginalized communities, including Dalits and Adivasis – India’s indigenous peoples. #BK12 #FreeBK12

/6 It is distressing to see the Government of India intimidate, harass and arrest those who have been vocal in their criticism of the government policies. Arresting Hany Babu and sending him to jail during a pandemic is just cruel and inhumane. #BK12 #FreeBK12

/6 Hany Babu will be sent to an overcrowded prison during the pandemic. Varavara Rao who is one of the 12 arrested in the Bhima Koregaon case tested positive for the #COVID19 while he was detained in the Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai. #BK12 #FreeBK12

/6 The Government of India is punishing those who speak truth to power. As the pandemic rages across India, it is unfortunate that people like Hany Babu who have held the government accountable will be at immediate risk in overcrowded prisons which are COVID19 hotspots. #BK12
