When the dead come to life.

And just like that, she was left with a cold heart on the shiny-spotless red concrete floor to which her in-laws were meant to see their pessimistic reflections on. Her enduring fight for the privilege of being a Mrs, was deemed a futile act.
They rushed to the sight of her frigid body and attempted to resurrect her as though they really wanted her to wake up...heaven knows that their little atrocious hearts chanted DEATH upon her, even when she was already gone.
Hell opened it’s fiery jaws, ready to devour the piece of her soul deserving of condemnation. Little did the living pit know that this mystic woman was indestructible even with her soul crushed, befouled and banned from the well of happiness.
They wailed and shouted forbiddings as her body entered the doors to her second last ride. Her white carriage also wailed and illuminated the cloudy skies with red and blue lights, taking her to her metallic silver bed.
She peacefully rested on her silver bed without a single blanket covering her expired body, despite having the room temperature at a chilling minus ten degrees Celsius.
She patiently waited for her host to undress and prepare her for the bitter-sweet meeting with her family members, whom she last saw four days ago. She wanted to feel pretty so that her almost husband fell in-love with her all over again, and shame the devils in his family.
Indeed the private stylist-slash-makeup artist she had hired long ago, did justice to her unapologetically divinely feminine aura to match her reprobated physique. The blush on her dry but perfectly fair cheeks was alluring to the Necrophiliac maniacs.
Her big day had come.
Who knew that she’d go to her big event in a white two piece suit instead of a pearled and laced long cathedral silky number to force tears onto her darling Mpendulo?
Who knew that she’d be carried by her hypocritical uncles instead of being walked down the flowered isle by her tender father? That her eyes would be without tears, and her face without emotions?
She just lied there, and without her own approval, was lowered into the dark hole, then had her entire outfit concealed by wood, a heavy blanket and pile of ants and soil. She was convinced it was all over for her...but no! Her savior came back for her when everyone had left her.
His voice was loud and clear even though he was actually whispering. He showed his affection by purchasing her soul with an exceptionally bright R2 coin and had her dug up back to life.
How romantic of him..
With a special branch of a tree, he led her to the house that was about to become her tower. At first she hesitated to follow him but, the song on his lips was the most convincing form of art she has ever heard.
“Zithwashambane zoba zincwamba.
Zimlandele zisebenzele iziko lomnikazi.
Azibuzi mbuzo, zilalela Izwi lakhe.
Zithwashambane zoba zincwamba.” Was the song that led her to his home.
How sweet of him to introduce her to his entire family. They were all so welcoming. She somehow immediately felt like a member of their family.
His mother threw compliments at her saying, “You are the most beautiful young lady we have ever seen! Call me mother.”
He blushed every time she looked at him, and she liked it. He understood her, and she felt attached to him in ways no one can explain.
She also felt guilty for giving in to his magnetic stare because a piece of her soul still belonged to Mpendulo, her almost husband.
Perhaps her new lover would allow her to pay a visit to Mpendulo. He must still be devastated by her sudden death. She knew she could never be with him ever again but it wouldn’t hurt to watch him mourn for her. She needed that closure.
“Only after you’ve done your job...” her new mother said to her, when she asked to check up on Mpendulo. This was 6 months after her half resurrection and training onto becoming a *Ncwamba as they call her.
“Yebo mama.” She responded and travelled to Johannesburg to complete her task of making dinner for a lady that had disquieted a famous member of a notorious political party by her plans to expose him to the entire world.
She had been given an address and all she had to do was to prepare a surprise dinner for her. A dinner that would be a slow time-ticking bomb inside of her. The bomb would explode when the powerful politician ordered for it to blow.
Her life was now in his hands.
She found her fast asleep on a beige fancy couch, with a lot of papers spread out on the grey carpet and on top of the oval glass coffee table. She must’ve been working on something very important. Perhaps an exposé on the overlord that had ordered her pre-assassination.
Without wasting time, she fed her the special clay and world hunted herbs that were to get the job done. The overlord had paid a lot of money to have her deliver this feast to this brave woman who had no idea what was coming her way.
This is how the family business is run.Her lover- Velehlathini offered a different kind of service to people. He organized spiritual snipers to take care of issues and/or people that stood in the way of his affluent clients.
He did this by the sending of his izincwamba- a special type of ghosts that are used similarly to Izilwane and amabutho. He had personally chosen and resurrected them for the important work to the circle of life.
Phindile was one of his many resources used to achieve this.
The poor sleeping beauty ate her momentous dinner, wiping the plate clean and enabling the bomb to anchor onto her exhausted body. Her waitress soon departed and went back KZN to report progress to her mother.
A job well done!
Her mother then granted her the opportunity to check up on Mpendulo. She was sure she’d find weeping and sad over her departure. She remembered how he fought his entire family just so he could be with her. They insulted him because of her but he did not give a damn.
He didn’t care about her inability to bear children and her lack of perky breasts. She was enough for him, and he did not only say it, but showed it in everything he did. She was sure their reunion would light the skies even though it wasn’t going to be physical.
She got a nervous when entering his yard. A strong tide of past life memories flooded her troubled soul, making her feel alive. His house was still the same. His kitchen set up too. She walked into his room & was immediately alarmed by the two sleeping figures on Mpendulo’s bed.
“Who are these people?”She wondered.
His bedroom is different now. The blue curtains she bought for him before her lobola negotiations have been replaced by lousy-uninspired grey curtains that look as cheap as the red heels on the floor.
She walked to his bed and slowly pulled the blanket off the two strangers in her almost husband’s bedroom.
“MPENDULO!!!” She shouted, when she realized there is only one stranger in this bed, and that is the woman snoring next to him.
“Mpendulo!! Who is this woman?! Why is she on our bed?!... Mpendulo answer me!!” She erupted.
Her words fell onto deaf ears because Mpendulo was completely oblivious to his almost wife’s midnight outburst.
With extreme rage, she threw the covers on the floor and the stranger next to Mpendulo woke up.
“Get out of my house you piece of trash!” She said to the stranger.
“Babe... babe..” the stranger called out to Mpendulo.
“Mmhh?” Mpendulo murmurs, still deep in sleep.
“Yewena Sdwedwe! I’m talking to you!” She screams at the stranger.
“Pick up the blanket on your side... I’m cold.” The stranger says.
“Mmhh?” Mpendulo responds.
“...the blanket.”
Mpendulo wakes up and extends his hand to the floor, grabs the blanket and brings it back to bed.
“Come here...” Mpendulo says, and cuddles the braided whore next to him.
Their stalker was so furious she decided to go cry about Mpendulo’s disloyalty to the strange lover that resurrected her. She was so disappointed in Mpendulo. How could he move on so fast?!
He always makes time for her. She found him asleep, woke him up to sob over her cheating almost husband.
“ Don’t cry...tell you what, if you do this one job for me, I will help you get him back.” He made a deal with her.
She smiled, then gave him an orgasm like she always does.
The job was to permanently unroot the life of a school principal that was selfish enough to not retire out of office after 40 years of being in his school. His Vice Principal wanted the opportunity to hold the glorious iron rod but the principal wouldn’t let him.
She got the job done with the help of her colleagues, Izizwe- a mixed group of spirits and herbs that come from different nations. The spirits used could be of different races or different nationalities hence the name Izizwe.
They were also owned by Velehlathini.
There are different types of Izizwe, some are used for evil doings, these ones are made of human souls mixed with herbs. Then we have some that are used to heal, divine, and protect, they are purely made of herbs.
Her duty was to carry the Izizwe to this stubborn principal, and thereafter blow them onto his face so that they could get in, and get the job done. By morning the following day, the principal was no longer counted among the living.

Velehlathini was impressed with her ability to jump shields and deliver death onto that principal. He then prepared a special alter for her to recuperate and gather strength in.This would help her get Mpendulo back, but also elevate her skills of completing her Savior’s tasks.
She spent three days inside the beaded calabash pot and came out feeling like a mighty Goliath. Unbound by time and matter, She first attended to her saviors tiresome tasks, then went back to see her darling Mpendulo.
She went to his place but found that he was hosting a braai with his friends, some of which she knew. His friends had brought their girlfriends over and Mpendulo was the only one without a girl on his lap.
She was happy to see him without that other whore. She stood by his side and listened as he gave his verdict on who was the best soccer player between Messi and Ronaldo, while timely turning the meat on the patchy braai stand.
His friends argue back at him, and laughter breaks out as Mpendulo starts messing up his soccer facts. She also laughs at him, as he tells his gents to fuck off.
That’s Mpendulo for you!
He’s a sore loser. A cute one though.
His friends then started complaining about how the temperature around them had suddenly peaked and that’s when Mpendulo called out for someone called Sarah to bring the gents more ice for the cooler box at the center of their friendship circle.
A few moments later, the cheap heels whore shows her glistening face at the kitchen door asking “When is the meat going to be ready? The pap is ready.” With her skanky voice.
“Give us ten more minutes, I’m alsmost done.” He answers her.
“Ladies, come help me with the salads.”
The tipsy girls in high waist jeans and leggings drag their feet to help out Sarah at the kitchen.
“The nerve!!
She’s cooking pap at my Man’s house?!..Mpendulo! Who is this girl?!” She shouts at Mpendulo as he smiles at her replacement.
She stomped to the braai stand and kicked it down, grabbing everyone’s attention and shutting down the stupid giggles from Mpendulo’s friends
“I told you this braai strand is old broe, you need to get a new one.” One of Mpendulo’s friends says, then everyone continues being silly
Mpendulo rushes to kitchen and She furiously follows him there. He asks Sarah for a jar of water and she gives it to him with a big smile on her face. He ran back to the fallen braai stand and poured the water onto the burning coal on the dry grass.
White smoke fills up the atmosphere.
He then picks up the 3 pieces of steak on the ground and walks to the backyard to give it to Betty, his dog. Betty start barking and howling the minute she sees Mpendulo’s stalker. Mpendulo tries to calm Betty with whistles but she won’t budge
Betty runs straight to the invisible figure behind Mpendulo, leaving Mpendulo confused on why Betty is barking into nothingness. He places the meat on Betty’s dish and before he could walk away, sees a shadow flashing at the corner of his eye.
She stops and turns around to see who or what the shadow is but sees nothing. Betty runs into the far end corner of the yard, still barking into nothingness until she is mysteriously pushed back by something that Mpendulo’s eyes could not see, but his feet could run from.
“Haw, ndoda... why you running like you’re being chased by a ghost?” One of his friends asks him when they see him with his tail between his legs while hyperventilating.
“It’s this alcohol mahn, I think I’m seeing things...you see, this is why I don’t drink.” Mpendulo says.
He’s really not an alcohol person. He smokes weed occasionally, but he’s not a drinker.
“I think we should go inside now..” Mpendulo reckons while constantly scanning all the dark corners at his front yard, not knowing the shadow he was scared of was right beside him.
His friends took their cooler box and drinks inside while he carried the bowl with all the ready to eat red meat inside the house. She followed them inside.
The girls had already started their own party. They’re twerking in-front of the full-on-blast tv with ciders in the hands.
Sarah had already dished up for everyone, Mpendulo just has to put the steak and boerwors in all the plates, before Sarah ships them off to lounge.
Mpendulo’s almost wife stands at the center of the lounge as they all enjoy and compliment Sarah’s cooking.
What really made her angry was the fact that one of Mpendulo’s friends compared Sarah’s cooking to her own cooking skills. The audacity to bash a dead person’s cooking skills!
That’s it!!
She smashes the tv with her hands, immediately shutting it off by burning the glass fuse.
The room goes quiet and everyone looks at the agitated Mpendulo, almost as if they expect him to do something...He’s an I.T person afterall.
He disappoints them by giving them a shrug and then focusing his attention on the heap of meat before him.
The conversation after that was as dry as a bone. The only sound that reigned in the room, was that of spoons against plates, and the ill mannered chewing from some of Mpendulo’s friends.
The center piece in the room walks to Kitchen to do more destruction...
As if things couldn’t get any more awkward, the Kitchen light starts flickering and everyone couldn’t help but notice it, even though no one was willing to discuss it. They all just looked at each other, and uncomfortably swallowed the rest of the food in front of them.
Sarah tried to offer them more drinks but everyone started making excuses not to hang around there for long. They all felt the energy that was in the house, and it wasn’t a good one.
Meanwhile, Mpendulo was as quiet as a lamb, ready to witness a beheading.
His spirit just kept dropping each second that his stalker stood next to him.He didn’t know what was going on but he could feel that the same shadow that pushed Betty outside, was now inside the house. He convinced himself it was the alcohol even though his gut told him otherwise.
At 22:00pm, everyone said their farewells and left Sarah and her Lamb to safeguard their house from whatever omen that was hanging over their roof. They prepared for bed and Sarah fell asleep before Mpendulo could.
His mind could switch off no matter effort to have it go silent.
For some weird reason, his heart would not stop thrusting, and his palms refused stop sweating. He kept his eyes shut, trying to figure out why he felt out of touch with himself. He couldn’t understand why he felt so empty and yet afraid all at the same time.
Then out of nowhere, Betty started barking and howling outside, and it seemed that all the dogs in the neighborhood joined her in the howling.
She was definitely sensing or seeing something.
He opened his eyes.
Got out of bed.
Walked to the light switch and switched it on.
He then walked to the window by Sarah’s side and slowly paved away the curtain.
The only thing he could see outside was Betty barking at the direction of the window that He was peeping from.
His eyes were all out, hoping to spot the cause of Betty hysteria.
Still confused by Betty’s behavior, his body was filled by goosebumps & then he saw a flickering-fiery image appear outside his house,he threw himself on the floor & instructed his bladder to let loose.
Although he couldn’t tell who/what the figure was, he knew it wasn’t good.
He stays still on the floor, still observing the blinking orange light coming from outside his house.
“Mpendulo... what’s that light outside?”
Sarah has woken up. She’s sitting upright in bed, and has mild fear written all over her voice.
He ignores her question..
The blinking light comes closer and closer to the window while illuminating the room with its orange fiery beam.
Mpendulo finds himself up on his feet, his eyes still glued to the light that’s calling his name outside.
Sarah is also out of bed now, with her phone in her hand.
She dials a number and puts the phone over her ear, her knees are trembling from apprehension
“Yes, hi..there’s a strange flame right outside our house..yes! A strange flame...no...there’s no smoke!.yes I’m sure..”Sarah is on the phone.
Mpendulo is still benumbed by the light.
Sarah was giving their address to the person on the phone when the flickering fiery light disappeared.
“Okay, wait... I think it’s gone.” Sarah says to the person on the phone.
Everything goes quiet for a minute... even Betty stops howling, along with her neighborhood friends.
Mpendulo finally turns to face Sarah. Their eyes lock for a few seconds before Mpendulo looks down at his soaking wet jockey underwear. He raises his eyes again to see Sarah’s reaction to his wet situation but is disturbed by a faint dark figure, resembling Phindile, behind Sarah
He takes a few steps backward while a single tear dropped from his left eye.
Sarah realizes that Mpendulo has seen something scary. Something that’s behind her. The thought of this forces her to stand-still with her shoulders raised as though she felt the presence behind her.
Mpendulo now has his back against the window. It is clear that had it not been for this window, he would’ve been long gone by now.
“Mpendulo, you’re scaring me..what is it?” Sarah asks him even though she knows that he won’t answer her.
She instantly plans to run towards Mpendulo... even though she knows there’s no way he’s going to protect her, being close to him would make a huge difference. She knows that.
She takes in a deep breath.
Estimates how fast she’d get to Him, & then dashes to where Mpendulo is.
The light bulb bursts as she runs to him, and Betty resumes howling outside.
All hell has broke loose!
The darkness in the room is now as a thick as the addition of fear running through both their bodies.
Mpendulo is even close to passing out..
“Uyfunani indoda yami?!” A distorted voices echoes throughout the dark room.
Sarah starts crying and calling out Shembe’s name out loud.
“Mpendulo... why are you not mourning me? Did you not love me?” The same distorted voice fills the room.
“Phi... phindile.. is that you?” Mpendulo’s dry mouth manages to push out a response.
“Who is she? Why is she in my bed?” The dark figure with fiery eyes sits ontop of the bed, all while Sarah is screaming her lungs out.
“B...b... but you are dead... ain’t you?”
“I asked you why Mpendulo!” the distorted voice thundered.
He didn’t have an answer to her question so he just remained quiet.
Sarah began to call out all the successors of the Nazareth church Lordship by name, weeping and begging for her life.
The dark figure on the bed began to ascend up into the air, like a light feather from the tail of a vulture or a Ndadzi, the Venda bird of lightning.
Her legs were now longer than that of a human, and her hair long and pointy as porcupine quills.
Sarah voluntary stops screaming after realizing this is her end. The flame in Phindile’s eyes starts to fill up the rest of her elongated bony face.
“Do you still love me?” She asks.
“Yes, yes... I do” Mpendulo quickly answers.
“Would you do anything for me?” She asks.
“Yes, of course Phindile.” His voice is barely coming out.
Sarah is holding on to Mpendulo’s sweaty biceps for dear life! Her lips are trembling and her heart has started a voyage leading to her dry throat.
“Kill her for me!” Phindile’s voice grows deeper as the flame on her face extends to her neck, her shoulders, and then all the way down to her waist.
The flame from her abysmal body floodlights the room.
Mpendulo and Sarah both look at each other with absolute trepidation.
“Kill her for me!”
“Phindi, please forgive her. She’s not the one who wronged you Phindi, I am. I am the one you should punish here.” Mpendulo start to weep.
“Either you kill her, i will do it myself.”
Phindile’s mind will not be meandered.
Mpendulo was still gathering his thoughts when Phindile quickly swooped right through Sarah’s body, and then out the window, leaving Sarah unconscious on the floor.
Her flickering light grew faint as she flew away, leaving the room dark again.
With disbelief of what had just happened, Mpendulo also collapsed right next Sarah.
In the morning, he was woken up by a banging headache and a disorientating vertigo. He pulled himself together and then saw next to him, Sarah’s lifeless body. His first reaction is panic.
His second reaction is Mother Mary’s weeping. He then calls the ambulance which got to his house 45 minutes later. They confirmed Sarah’s death, and the police were called to come to the crime scene, and for the mad man-Mpendulo to give his statement.
Sarah’s family accused Mpendulo of murdering Sarah, but without an autopsy- nothing could be done just yet. The place didn’t show any sign of a struggle between Sarah & Mpendulo. The only thing they found was a urine stain on the carpet which belonged to Mpendulo.
The autopsy finally came out & Sarah’s cause of death was declared.
She had suffered a heart attack . Her family rejected the autopsy and accused Mpendulo of bribing his way out of a potential murder case. Mpendulo didn’t even defend himself. He was far too traumatized to fight
Phindile returned to her eternal job as a Ncwamba, carrying out spiritual assassinations and curses to the enemies of Velehlathini’s clients. Every once in a while she’d visit Mpendulo and would always delight at the sight of his lonesome self.
She would help him get off like she used to, before she died, and he had no choice but to enjoy it since it all took place in his dreams.
He lost his job in the process and ended up being a freelancer...but at least through all of this, he had her as his comforter every night.
She isolated him from the world without him even noticing, and kept him all to herself. He was her soul mate. Not even death would do them apart.
This continued for years until Mpendulo decided to disclose of his uncontrollable sex dreams to a friend.
His friend suggested for him to seek help from those who see beyond the naked eye. Mpendulo took his friend’s suggestion and went to see a local prophet, but that prophet chased him out of his home saying that he was being followed by a truckload of evil spirits
This is when he became an alcoholic, until his family practically kidnapped him to a seer from a different town. When they entered this seers compound, Mpendulo became hysterical and wanted to run away but his uncles restrained him inside the hut draped with white cloths.
The door was closed, and candles were lit. Mpendulo was banging the door, begging to be set free. The seer threw white ash at him until he was left paralyzed on the floor. Phindile’s voice echoed in his ears, instructing him to get up and run.
“I can’t Phindile. I can’t!”
The see prayed over him and after manifesting with different entities except that of Phindile, Mpendulo was declared free. The seer explained that the only thing that would detach Phindile’s spirit from him was a cleansing ritual, which had to be done on an open veld.
She led Mpendulo and his uncles to an open veld and bathed Mpendulo with holy water mixed with a white chicken’s bile. When the ritual was done, Mpendulo cried like a baby after realizing how not doing a cleansing ritual after Phindile’s death almost costed him his life.
He was also given some holy water to sprinkle all over his yard &home. Every night after that, he’d still dream of his almost wife, calling his name from outside his gate, being unable to come inside his home. After getting his life back,he sold his house & moved to a diff town.
Phindile’s spirit is still not at rest. She works day & night, and sometimes she gets caught by those given authority of her kind- forcing her to confess where she comes from, but never who her master is, and She continues to haunt the new owners of Mpendulo’s old house
The end.
