A tremendous failure by Afghan Security in Jalalabad- ~40 ISIS prisoners escaped, and fighting still ongoing at the prison multiple hours later. Seems to have gone as IS planned thus far, with heavily armed Inghimasi keeping authorities occupied

9h+ later & fighting is still ongoing. IS K clearly retains significant organisational, personnel & equipment capability. Essentially a classic Iraq style breakout, quite complex.

As it did in Iraq, 10s of IS freed will help rejuvenate the organisation.

Important to note: As the attack is still ongoing, ISIS have only released an Amaq claim for the attack. When it ends (As it will in a flurry of PBIED detonations) then expect them to release much more of a full claim, pics of attack team etc.

So ~18 hours later Afghan Forces seem to have started clearing the prison. Will be over fairly soon in my opinion. Also rather likely that IS achieved their goal, unfortunately.

Detailed statement of IS on the attack. Note foreign fighter driving the SVBIED
